Verizon Wireless users and GPS

ZoomSafer’s software utilizes the GPS on your phone to automatically detect speed and determine when you’re driving. All of the major wireless networks in the US and Canada (except Verizon) currently provide third-party application developers fully open access to GPS services.

In Verizon’s case, the GPS services are partially open, which means that:

• ZoomSafer will work “automatically” on the Verizon network if you have a Blackberry Storm or Blackberry Tour
• ZoomSafer will work “manually” on the Verizon network if you have a Blackberry Pearl or Blackberry Curve.

The good news is that Verizon Wireless has announced plans to fully open GPS services for all new Blackberry handsets. This is expected to happen this fall – but until then, Verizon customers with the Pearl or Curve must remember to manually activate ZoomSafer when they start to drive.

We apologize for the inconvenience – and we’ll let you know as soon as Verizon provides fully open access to GPS services.

I've seen all of your comments, appreciate the time you took to write them and am sorry to have gotten you angry with us. I'm going to answer each one in the space your wrote it so people looking at those threads will see the answers there. The http://www.zoomsafer.com/phone-types.... link that's on the bottom of our web page and also right next to the place where you tell us which type of phone you have in registration spells out what we support and how auto activation works.

I think you're telling us the marketing message is louder than the details in the page and we will look into that to make sure we're being clear. As you can tell from our support community, we've been dealing with this particular situation for many months. The good news for us Verizon Wireless customers (I'm one also with a Curve) is thata they have committed to opening up their GPSs on all of their Blackberrys sometime this year.

We will keep everyone posted on what we hear. Thanks again for your time and interest in ZoomSafer.

    Mike,
    Thanks for the reply.
Yes, I now see the manual activation and I agree that the marketing message is what got my attention. I was really jazzed about the product and preaching it to all my colleagues, family and friends the need to buy this and stop risking our lives emailing, texting and cell phoning while driving. I think if nothing else you should be able to shame Verizon and all other carriers into opening up the GPS systems immediately.
How many families have to endure their teens killing and being killed while texting behind the wheel?

happy I’m very happy to have Geoff as a user
    Geoff -

Thanks again for all your time and passion. We'd like nothing more than to get good news out of Verizon Wireless and will keep everyone posted. I will say that I believe all the major wireless carriers including Verizon Wireless are now very aware of the distracted driving issue and taking steps to help. We do talk to all of them and think every ZoomSafer customer helps in that we're sending a message that there is a growing population in North America that cares about the issue and is willing to do something about it.

    Safe driving,
    Mike

  • To everyone -

We've added some specific footnotes in the copy of the ZoomSafer.com Home and Personal pages to specifically point people to the Supported Smartphones matrix especially if they have a Verizon Wireless phone. Thanks again for all the great feedback.
